Actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra Jonas has admitted she doesn’t want to leave her house after a botched nose job in the early 2000s.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas opens up about how botched cosmetic surgery affected her mental health.

The 40-year-old actress appeared on an episode of The Howard Stern Show and explained that she had botched nose surgery in the early 2000s after doctors advised her to have polyps removed from her nasal cavity.

“It was a dark time,” she told Howard Stern of the consequences of doctors making mistakes during surgery.

“My face looked completely different. I fell into a deep depression,” Chopra Jonas said, adding that she was subsequently dropped from three more films and thought her acting career was “over before it began.”

The Indian star admitted her mental health deteriorated, to the point where she couldn’t leave the house. Until her father – a doctor – encouraged her to undergo corrective surgery.

“I was so scared, but he said, ‘I’ll be in the operating room with you.’ He helped me through it all and helped me rebuild my confidence,” Priyanka Chopra Jonas recalled.

Chopra Jonas previously shared details of her botched nose surgery in her memoir Unfinished, saying the results left her feeling “devastated and hopeless.”

Globally famous since being crowned Miss World 2000, Priyanka Chopra Jonas started suffering from a “lingering cold” in the summer of 2001, at which time she simply thought it was a “sinus infection”.

“I had trouble breathing. This is a problem that asthmatics cannot ignore,” the star wrote in her book. She finally saw a doctor, referred by a family friend, who discovered “a tumor in my nasal cavity that needed to be surgically removed.”

At the time, Chopra Jonas was grateful that the polyp removal surgery “sounded like a routine procedure,” but unfortunately for her, things didn’t go as planned.

“While removing the polyp, the doctor accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose, causing it to break. When the bandage was removed, my mother and I were shocked by the condition of my nose. My original nose had disappeared. My face looked completely different. I was no longer me,” she said.

Coping with the aftermath of the botched surgery was made even more difficult by Chopra Jonas’s newfound stardom. She recalls the media nicknamed her “Plastic Chopra” after the surgery.

“Immediately the name started appearing in articles and followed me throughout my professional life,” Chopra Jonas confirmed.

She eventually had to undergo multiple revision surgeries to repair the damage done during the polyp removal. Now, the former Miss World feels like her “nose is back to normal.”

“A few years ago, every time I looked in the mirror, I saw a stranger staring back at me. I got used to this face. Now when I look in the mirror, I’m not surprised anymore. This is my face. This is my body. I may have flaws, but it’s still me,” Chopra Jonas said.
