Addressing the audience at the Supreme Court’s auditorium, Aamir Khan said, “About 35 years of my life has gone into complete madness. I was a workaholic.”Pointing towards his ex-wife, who was sitting beside him, Aamir said, “Kiran has experienced it. She said to me, ‘I understand you are physically with us but mentally not’. She told me a very loving thing, ‘You often tell me you are unable to meet Ammi, she lives just two floors above you, who is stopping you?’ In the past three years, I have tried to bring balance in my life.”

Just recently, in a rare interview, Ranbir Kapoor recalled an interaction that he had with Aamir, during which the superstar admitted that he hadn’t taken care of his personal relationships over the years. Ranbir told entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, “I know Mr Aamir Khan, when I meet him now… I met him two years back… he was in tears, I asked him what happened, and he’s like, ‘I have spent 30 years of my life and the only relationship I’ve had is with my audience, I don’t have a relationship with my children, I don’t have a relationship with my mother, with his ex-wife (Kiran Rao), she was his wife then.”

Last year, at News18 event, Aamir Khan first opened up about his regrets, and had opened up about not spending enough time with his family and kids. He said, “Around two and a half years ago, I realised I was so lost in my passion that I hadn’t given enough time to my relationships. I was disturbed and unhappy. I would have left films if not for my children. I was angry and irritated with myself.”

On World Mental Health Day last year, the actor also opened up about going to therapy. “I can’t go back to the time when Junaid was five or Ira was four. We need to understand what we want to do with out time. I have become mindful. I have been in therapy for two years. I believe we are not trained to do everything.” He further said, “I have learned a lot. I hope to balance professional and personal life now. I am happy that I realised it at 56 and not 80. I am grateful.”

Laapataa Ladies marked Kiran’s comeback as director. The film, starring Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Nitanshi Goel, opened to positive reviews after its release in March. The film also emerged as a modest hit.

Aamir will next be seen in the film Sitaare Zameen Par, due for release in December.
