Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s  Ramayan (1987), has expressed his support for the possibility of Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the role of Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film adaptation. Govil commended Kapoor’s character, citing his diligence and cultural values as fitting qualities for the portrayal of Ram.

Arun Govil On Ranbir Kapoor Playing Lord Ram In A Film: "He's Very Sanskaari"

In a recent media interaction, Arun Govil refrained from making definitive statements about Ranbir Kapoor‘s potential casting, emphasizing that only time would tell.

However, he acknowledged Kapoor’s talent, describing him as a proficient and award-winning actor. Govil went on to praise Kapoor’s work ethic and cultural upbringing, noting his evident moral and traditional values. He labelled Ranbir as “hardworking” and “sanskari”.

When queried about his opinion on whether Ranbir Kapoor could portray Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s film, Govil conveyed his thoughts to Bollywood Spy. He said,

“Woh ho sakta hai ya nahi ho sakta hai woh toh samay batayega. Pehle se kuch nahi kaha ja sakta kisi ke baare main (Only time can tell if that will happen or not, can’t say anything in advance about it). But, as far as Ranbir is concerned, he is a good actor. He is an award-winning actor.”

“Jitna jaanta hoon main unko, bahut mehnat se kaam karte hain wo, bahut sanskari bache hain woh. Unke andar morals, sanskar, sanskriti hai. Maine dekha hai kayi baar unko (As much as I know about him, Ranbir works very hard, and he is a very cultured kid. He has got good moral and cultural values. I’ve noticed it several times). I’m very sure that he will try to do his best.”

Reflecting on his own experience playing Ram alongside Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, Sunil Lahiri as Lakshman, and Dara Singh as Hanuman, Govil shared insights into Kapoor’s possible co-stars for the new adaptation. While there’s speculation about the casting, with Sai Pallavi rumored to play Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Govil’s role as Dashrath remains unconfirmed.

Despite the absence of official announcements, anticipation surrounds Tiwari’s reimagination of Ramayana, slated for a theatrical release in 2025. With Govil’s endorsement and Kapoor’s reputed acting prowess, expectations are high for this cinematic rendition of the timeless epic.
