Sonakshi Sinha Responds Strongly to Mukesh Khanna’s Comments About Her Family and Upbringing
Sonakshi Sinha has finally addressed the remarks made by veteran actor Mukesh Khanna about her upbringing and family values. Taking to Instagram, Sonakshi shared a detailed note that not only countered Khanna’s comments but also highlighted the larger issue of online harassment.
The controversy stems from an old episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), where Sonakshi was unable to answer a question about Indian mythology. This incident led to widespread trolling and criticism, with Khanna recently reigniting the issue during an interview. The actor commented on the lack of awareness among today’s youth about Indian epics and used Sonakshi as an example, questioning her upbringing.
Sonakshi started her note by recalling the incident on KBC, pointing out that two other women present alongside her on the hot seat also could not answer the same question. “Let me remind you,” she wrote, “that on that day, there were two women on the hot seat, and neither of them could answer the question. But you chose to focus on me and only me, for reasons that are quite obvious.”
She candidly admitted that she had experienced a momentary mental block during the show, which she described as a natural occurrence under pressure. However, she criticized Khanna for dismissing this context and choosing to target her instead.
In a powerful response, Sonakshi referenced a valuable lesson from the Indian epic Ramayana, which Khanna had mentioned during his remarks. She reminded him how Lord Rama forgave Manthara, Kaikeyi, and even Ravana. But she clarified that she didn’t need Khanna’s forgiveness, emphasizing that all she wanted was for him to stop revisiting an old incident and to cease his criticism of her family.
Sonakshi’s response also took aim at the broader issue of online harassment. She urged people to reflect before exercising their freedom of speech irresponsibly, stating, “Your freedom of speech does not give you the freedom to abuse.” Her note called for an end to unnecessary trolling and emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue, even when disagreements arise.
The controversy initially began when Khanna, during an interview about the return of his iconic show Shaktimaan, cited Sonakshi as an example of how younger generations lack knowledge about Indian mythology. This reference reopened discussions about her KBC appearance, causing her to address the issue publicly.
Sonakshi’s response has resonated widely, with many praising her for standing up against unwarranted criticism while maintaining dignity. Her statement not only silences her detractors but also highlights the need for a more thoughtful and respectful discourse in public spaces.
In the end, Sonakshi made it clear that she considers the matter closed and hopes Mukesh Khanna will do the same, focusing on positivity instead of revisiting past controversies.
