Reflecting on a past incident, Shreya Ghoshal once expressed her views on Alia Bhatt’s rendition of the timeless track ‘Samjhawan’, a song originally sung by herself. In 2017, Shreya Ghoshal captivated audiences with her rendition of ‘Samjhawan’ in the film ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya’, which garnered immense popularity and was hailed as a love anthem.

However, when the film released an unplugged version sung by Alia Bhatt, it failed to receive favorable reviews compared to Ghoshal’s original rendition.

During a promotional event for the film, the magnificent singer shared her perspective on Bhatt’s rendition, suggesting that such endeavors by actors often aim at boosting film promotions and revenue.

Shreya Ghoshal humorously remarked that it might just be a tactic to increase box office earnings. Emphasizing that the song’s original credit would always be associated with herself and co-singer Arijit Singh, Ghoshal asserted that audiences would inevitably link the song to its original artists. She said,

“I understand that people do it for promotion. It doesn’t hamper me. Maybe it’s only to get the cash registers ringing. But when someone thinks of the song, the first names to crop up would be Shreya and Arijit. Like the producer, director and the actors, the audience too is aware of the fact that Alia rendered her vocals for the promotion of the film.”

Shreya addressed the phenomenon of new singers emulating her style, expressing her support for aspiring artists as long as they contribute positively to the music industry. Reflecting on her journey in the music industry spanning over two decades, Ghoshal attributed her success to the support of her listeners, peers, and seniors.

“That’s fine as long as we are making good music. I have always given my heartfelt encouragement to new artists. At times, if I hear a song and if I have access to the artiste, I pick up my phone and make it a point to appreciate him or her. Sunidhi Chauhan and I have done that quite a few times. I am fine with people taking inspiration from me as long as eventually they find their own voice.”

In a separate instance, Shreya Ghoshal conveyed her disapproval of the trend of recreating old songs with newer versions, citing sentimental attachment to her original compositions. She expressed reluctance towards allowing her songs to be recreated, emphasizing the emotional significance each holds for her.

“I don’t want any of my songs to be recreated, none of my songs. Even if it is asked to me to recreate, I would probably say no. There are so many of my songs which I have very strong memories with. Those are sentimental.”

Shreya’s candid remarks offer insight into her perspective on the evolving landscape of the music industry and her unwavering commitment to her artistic integrity.
