I can’t get dressed without these basics.

Every season, I have a closet staple that, for several months, does not leave my body. This summer, it’s been flowy pants that make me feel like I’m wearing as little clothing as possible. Last winter, it was a chunky pair of loafers I wore until my heels begged me not to. But throughout the changing weather, there are two wardrobe staples that, no matter the temperature, withstand the test of time: straight-leg jeans and platform sneakers.

Whether I’m pairing them with a lightweight blouse or oversized sweater, the straight-leg jeans and chunky sneakers combo has never failed me. And I’m not the only one who’s a fan of this outfit formula; Priyankra Chopra, queen of fuss-free dressing, just posted in Australia wearing her own version of my two favorite styles. To recreate the star’s look and restock my own collection, I headed straight to Amazon, where I found lookalike styles starting at just $25.

As a shopping writer, I know there are plenty of funky trends and niche brands that celebs love to try out; but when it comes to classic Levi’s denim, stars like Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Aniston are always wearing them for a reason. This particular pair of Levi’s, on sale for just $45, is the quintessential straight-leg jean—it has a high-rise waistband, is snug through the thigh, and hits right at the ankle for a flattering and lengthening fit. A shopper who says they’re “so picky” with jeans called these “comfy, booty-flattering, and well-made,” adding that they “would definitely recommend.”

Another all-star denim brand, Gap is an immediate go-to of mine for styles that are simultaneously on-trend, long-lasting, and most importantly, comfy. A perfect example, this half-off pair has a straight fit from the waist through the ankle and is made from quality denim with just the right amount of stretch. A shopper who typically struggles to find straight-leg jeans gave these their stamp of approval since they have “a flattering wash and fit and are actually comfortable.” Another customer noted the jeans are “not too stretchy, but have a nice structure while still being forgiving.” Grab the style in a variety of colors, including light blue, dark blue, and black.

Platform sneakers are a year-round part of my outfit rotation for a reason—between trousers, flowy skirts, and denim cutoffs, they go with every style of bottoms imaginable, and, my favorite part, have an elongating effect that I find especially flattering. This chunky pair from Reebok is “very versatile” and “super comfy,” according to reviewers. Plus, another shopper, who called the pair “the perfect platform tennis shoe,” mentioned they can wear them “for hours on end.”

Now that summer is (devastatingly) nearing its end, I’m eyeing pieces that’ll get airtime beyond just these three balmy months. If you’re also in the market for basics you can style no matter the season, check out more straight-leg jeans and platform sneakers, starting at just $25, below.
