In a recent interview, Raveena Tandon revealed that Shah Rukh Khan was surprised by her decision to drop out of a film that they were supposed to do together.

Actor Raveena Tandon, who has worked with Shah Rukh Khan in films such as Jaadu and Zamaana Deewana, among others, recently revealed that she rejected a film with him because she found her costumes in to be in poor taste. Wary of being objectified, Raveena backed out of the project, much to Shah Rukh’s surprise. In a recent interview, Raveena, without revealing the name of the movie, said that she was uncomfortable with what she was being asked to wear, and Shah Rukh Khan’s response to her decision was, “Are you mad?”

In an interview with Filmfare, Raveena Tandon recalled refusing films that didn’t align with her principles. She said, “There was a movie with Shah Rukh Khan and I had almost signed it till the time came where we discussed the costumes. The costumes were really weird, and that was not something I would feel comfortable wearing. I thought they were a little too objectifying.”

“I said, ‘Sorry, I cannot do this film’, and Shah Rukh was like, ‘Are you mad? Why are you saying no to it now?’ Because we were already doing a film which had the most amazing music, called Jaadu, and also Zamana Deewana. We really used to get-along. I think Shah Rukh is the wittiest, warmest, and gentlemanly co-actors to work with. He is decent to the core, there are no two-ways about that. I said, ‘Shah (I was the first to call him that), I can’t wear that stuff. I will feel funny and strange’,” she added.

Raveena recalled doing sensuous songs such as “Tip Tip Barsa Paani,” but said that the costumes that she wore on screen were never sleazy, but she definitely had a problem with the movies she turned down. “I have said no to films for such reasons, and I think that’s how the entire, ‘What does she think of herself’ perception came into the picture,” said Raveena.

This wasn’t the only time that Raveena rejected a film with Shah Rukh Khan. Previously, she had spoken about rejecting a role in the 1993 film Darr. In an interview with ANI, Raveena Tandon revealed she was the initial choice for Darr, but certain scenes made her feel uncomfortable. She was also offered the role that eventually went to Rani Mukerji in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which she turned down because she didn’t want to play second-fiddle.

Raveena Tandon recently featured in the romantic drama Ghudchadi, alongside Sanjay Dutt. The film, directed by Binoy Gandhi, was released on Jio Cinema on Friday.
