It occurred during the shooting of the 1998 film Major Saab starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn. This was two years before Abhishek made his debut as an actor. He was still involved during the production of the film as a production boy. A part of the shooting schedule for Major Saab was held in Australia.

Abhishek was given the responsibility of looking after Ajay Devgn during the Australia schedule. When Ajay landed in Australia, Abhishek realised that he had forgotten to book a hotel room for him. As a result, Abhishek gave up his hotel room for Ajay and he spent the night on the streets of Australia instead. In addition, there was a moment when Abhishek shared a drink with Ajay Devgn. Abhishek mentioned that he would only have the drink if Ajay promised not to tell his father. Following this agreement, both Ajay and Abhishek enjoyed some vodka together.

Two years after Major Saab, Abhishek Bachchan debuted alongside Kareena Kapoor in the film Refugee.
