Kangana Ranaut said that she turned down a role in Sanju.

Actor Kangana Ranaut made Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt her targets when she launched a campaign against nepotism in Bollywood. She also criticised his biggest hit, And in recent interview, she revealed that she turned down a role in the film Sanju, in which Ranbir played actor Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film emerged as a major hit, and featured actors such as Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, and Sonam Kapoor, among others.

While Kangana didn’t reveal what role she was approached for, she said that Ranbir himself asked her to be a part of the movie. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kangana was asked if it becomes awkward for her to interact with people that she has publicly scorned, or turned down professionally. She said that she has rejected several film offers from the biggest stars, but that hasn’t affected their professional equation. “Ranbir himself came to my house, and said, ‘Sanju mein role kar le please’. I didn’t do it, but that doesn’t mean…”

In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Kangana said that she turned down films starring all three Khans because she believes they wouldn’t have good roles for women.  “I have turned down deals worth Rs 10-15 crores because they endorse fairness creams. It is racist. I was like this from the beginning, even before I was successful. I have turned down films with the Khans. But let me be clear, all the Khans have been very kind and nice to me. There’re people who’ve misbehaved with me, but Khans were not one of them,” she said.

Kangana has famously been involved in a largely one-sided feud with director Karan Johar, whom she called ‘the flag-bearer of nepotism’ on Koffee with Karan. Without naming anybody, she appeared to take a dig at both Ranbir and Karan in 2023, and accused them of planting fake stories about her in the press. “There are all kinds of menaces in the film industry but the worse is this Duryodhan (white rat) and Shakuni (papa jo) Jodi… They self admittedly call themselves most gossipy, jealous, bitchy and insecure… they refer to themselves as information and broadcasting ministry of gossip in film,” she wrote on Instagram.
