The year was 2007, when MS Dhoni made headlines as India scripted history, winning their first-ever T20 World Cup under his leadership. At the same time, far away from the cricketing set-up was Deepika Padukone, who was also rising to fame after her debut movie, Om Shanti Om, with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan topped all charts.
It was a time of excitement and anticipation when reports first hinted at a potential romance between the then-Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, and the B’Town beauty, Deepika Padukone.
Dhoni’s heart was said to be bowled over by Deepika, and he even confessed his love to her, going as far as to approach Shahrukh Khan for a special screening of her film. The buzz reached a fever pitch when the two were spotted together, with Deepika cheering for Dhoni during a T20 game against Australia.
The two were linked up innumerable times, and there were also reports about the two getting engaged. However, the tale did not end there.
In a delightful throwback video that surfaced on social media, Deepika is seen performing at the IPL opening ceremony.
The video’s biggest highlight is the playful banter between Yuvraj and Dhoni, with Yuvraj teasing Dhoni, who couldn’t help but blush, as Deepika dances to her song ‘Chor Bazaari’.

Later, numerous rumours hinted that Yuvraj Singh, too, had started liking Deepika and were in a relationship. To save his friendship with fellow teammate Yuvi, Dhoni distanced himself from Deepika.
Thus ended the chapter of Captain Cool and began the relationship of Deepika and Yuvraj; the two dated for a while until they broke up because the actress found him possessive. In an interview, Deepika claimed that Yuvraj would interfere with her work and it would create chaos. Whereas, Yuvraj said that she moved on too quickly and found happiness with Ranbir Kapoor.
